Museum design involves the use of architecture and design to generate ideas and solutions for fitting out the museum environment, presenting the museum and its collection to a broad audience, and promoting museums’ products. This is a broad concept which includes architectural design of the museum space, design of permanent and temporary exhibitions, organization of a museum’s navigation, design of museums’ printed products, and much else besides. An important part of modern museum design is care for disabled visitors.

The St Petersburg Biennale of Museum Design is a unique project which uses exhibitions and an extensive educational program to present examples of the best museum design from both Russia and the rest of the world.

The program for the biennale includes exhibitions prepared by Russian and foreign designers, lectures by world-famous architects and designers and master-classes for student designers.
