The Group was founded in 1995 started out with a series of exhibitions and performances devoted to a phenomenon of clothes an d later widened the scope of its interests towards social and gender topics. The Group is known for involving people of various social backgrounds into their activities (as participants and co-authours): sailors, homeless people, police officers, ballet-dancers, businessmen, young mothers etc.)
The Group works with different contemporary art media employing performance, video, multi media installation and displayed their works in Russia and abroad (Finland, the UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Estonia).
Members of the Group also work individually and with the Chto Delat? / What is to be done? workgroup (since 2003). In 2007 the artists were awarded “Tcherny kvadrat” (Black Square) National Contemporary Art Prize.
Consultant: Alexander Skidan
Poet, prose and essay writer. Born 1965, Leningrad. Author of two poetry volumes and two books of critical essays. Translates contemporary American poetry into Russian. Laureate: Turgenev Festival of Short Prose (Moscow, 1998) and Andrei Bely Prize (2006). Lives in St.Petersburg.
Music: Vladimir Rannev
Composer and musicologist, teaches music history, also works as a music crutic for “Kommersant” newspaper. Graduated from St.Petersburg St.Petersburg Conservatoire (composition), studied in Higher Music School in Köln.
