Central Museum of the Railway Transport of the Russian Federation
is one of the world’s oldest technology and science museums, founded in 1813. The building that houses the exposition was designed for the museum in 1902 by architect P.Kupinsky. The collection boasts of more than 60 thousand exhibits: unique models of steam locomotives, carriages, bridges and railway facilities, real-life railway communication service and control devices, including models of the first Russian locomotive designed by Tcherepanov brothers in 1834, “Provorny” locomotive of the first Russian “Pavlovsk – Tsarskoye Selo – St.Petersburg” public railway, models of the first Russian carriages and locomotives built in St.Petersburg in 1845. Each section of the exposition displays working models that show how various machines and mechanisms are employed to build and operate railways.
