Astronomy Museum of the Main (Pulkovo) Astronomic Observatory, Russian Academy of Sciences
The Astronomy Museum of the famous Pulkovo Observatory is a unique museum to present the comprehensive history of Russian astronomy of the 19th and 20th century. It is situated in the Round Hall of the Observatory’s main building, erected in 1839 by a prominent architect Alexander Brullov following the order of Nikolay I. V.Ya.Struve, eminent astronomer and the first director of the Observatory, also took part in the construction. The museum displays the optics of the biggest 19th century telescopes, geodesic tools, measurement and calculation equipment, a collection of astronomic clocks. Here one can see the notorious Pulkovo meridian that goes through the center of the hall, as well as a portrait gallery of astronomers and scientists of the past centuries.
