The Military Medical Museum of the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation
 
The Museum occupies former barracks of the Semyonovsky Life Guards Regiment and building of the Semyonovsky-Alexandrovsky Hospital.
The Military Medical Museum was founded on November 12, 1942. The present exhibition opened in 2001 offers 13 rooms covering history of healthcare in Russia and military medicine from the time it was first introduced up to now. It also covers specific areas such as “Nurses and Charity Movement, Red Cross in Russia”, “N. Pirogov: Scientist, Surgeon, Teacher and Citizen”, “Foreign-born Physicians and Their Descendants on Russian Service”, “Medical Petersburg” etc.
Museum collections boasts of more than 210 thousand exhibits: from medical specimen Peter the Great brought from Europe in the early 18th century and first Russian-made surgical instruments to the exhibits from Surgery, Pirogov and Military and Sanitary Museums. Military Medical Museum displays collections of graphic art, pharmaceuticals, medical uniforms, personal belongings of outstanding Russian physicians, photographs, drawings, medical books and historical medical documents as well as personal archives of outstanding military medics who have contributed to the world’s natural science and medicine.
