REFLECTUM
The installation is made of white neon and a mirror in the arch reproducing reverse text by Anna Akhmatova from a tablet in Sheremetev garden. The text is made with neon tubes 3.5 m high and is fixed on the wall; it is reflected in the mirror placed in the vault and visitor can read the text as a reflection – not the complete text at once, but step by step, walking under the mirror. By using modern advertising technique the authors treat classic poetry as a façade sign in slogan aesthetics. White neon attracts audience’s attention like a regular advert would do, drawing the poem out from its intimate poetic space. White color used for the letters feels estranged, cold and ‘inhuman” is a metaphor for the place that poetry occupies in today’s world. Neon Poetry is a visitor from the future, who lacks “warmth”, enters the mirror from the past and walks out into the present of Liteiny prospect.
