A film by the Society for Distribution of Useful Ideas (Los Angeles) and The Kabinet (St. Petersburg) takes its title from the Russian philosopher Nikolai Fedorov’s work, The Common Task. This film interweaves tales of Nicolai Federov and his ideas, the accomplishments and tribulations of Russia's historic Pulkovo Observatory, and the life and work of Constantine Tsiolkovski. The film is a poetic narration about the destiny of ideas, science, inspiration and humanism.
