Krasny Treugolnik (Red Triangle) – former rubber plant facilities
The plant was founded in 1860 by Hamburg merchant F. Krauskopf as the Russian-American Rubber Manufacture Association. The first facilities were designed by architect R. Heinrichsen. Up to the late 19th century the plant was country monopolist in rubber manufacture. Since 1908 the plant got the name “Treugolnik” (Triangle) that agreed with its logo. By 1910s Treugolnik Association had developed a vast area (architects R. Gedike, E. Guelman, L. Serk). In 1917 massive red-brick factory works along Obvodny Canal were linked together by an arch passage (designed by engineer E. Krzhizhanovsky). In 1918 the plant was nationalized, and renamed State Plant of Rubber Industry № 1 Treugolnik. In 1997 after privatization the plant split into several lease enterprises: rubber plant, tire works and rubber shoes manufacture. In 2002 production was stopped and in 2003, after the facilities were sold out, the plant was closed down. At present the area is developed as a Treugolnik business center with some of the facilities rebuilt as office buildings; there is a plan to build a multi-functional center.
