The Museum of the History of St Petersburg State University
The Museum of the History of St Petersburg State University is the country’s oldest and one of the largest museums of its kind. It was established in 1945 the nucleus of the collection being exhibitions on the history of the University held in 1939 and 1944.
The Museum is located on the 3rd floor of the Twelve Collegia building – the monument of the 18th century architecture. One of the museum rooms is the University church of SS Peter and Paul created in 1837 when the building was refurbished to accommodate the University.
The Museum display tells about the history of St Petersburg University covering the period of time from the day of its establishment back in 1724 as a part of the Academy of Sciences to the beginning of the 21st century.
The Museum collection includes over 50, 000 items most of which are original documents and photographs, instruments and manuals, personal belongings and memorial articles of prominent scholars, writers, artists, public and political figures.
The Museum regularly organizes temporary exhibitions, conducts various conferences and seminars.
