The A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications
Is it possible to see a real communications satellite? “Sure!”, reply all those who have already visited the A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications. It is one of the most advanced modern museums presenting both the most recent achievements in the sphere of telecommunications and the history of the development of communications technology.
The display begins with the history of the postal service and, following the logical progression, takes the visitor through the major milestones of the further development of communications facilities – telegraph, telephone, radio, television and mobile communication. All visitors can use the Museum Internet Center free of charge for a certain period of time.
One of the main principles of the Central Museum of Communications is “please, do touch the exhibits” and therefore here one can use a video-telephone, make a souvenir stamp with his own hands, operate the early 20th century switchboard, travel with a telephone signal and play with electricity.
And should the visitor want to take a walk around the Red Square in Moscow without leaving the building of the Central Museum of Communications in St Petersburg he is also welcome to do this. Using the interactive exhibit “A Virtual Sphere” one can set off for a virtual journey around the cities or labyrinths of computer games.
