VISUAL ART PROGRAM
CONTEMPORARY ART
Program for young practicing artists



The program is designed for young people under age of 30 with artistic education or those currently involved in the field of contemporary art.

The program allows participants to understand aesthetical potential of new forms of art such as object, installation, performance, action, video art, net art, computer art as well as to shape their personal attitude towards them and gain basic skills of dealing with new media (digital photography, video art, computer resources and others) that can be used for creating a piece of art work.






The program offers:
  • Series of lectures on history and theory of modern and contemporary art
  • Master classes conducted by leading Russian and international artists
  • Meetings with Russian and international arts theorists and experts
  • Tutoring for individual artistic projects
  • Participating in workshops, festivals and exhibitions in Russia as well as abroad
  • Technical base for carrying out projects in the field of media art (multimedia lab)

The program runs for two years.


Participants are selected on the basis of an interview with experts in the field of contemporary art.

Graduates of the program receive the PRO ARTE Foundation certificate.

Selected results:

In 2000-2005 more than 50 artists were involved in the educational program for young artists in the PRO ARTE Institute.

The students and graduates of the program take part in the exhibitions and festivals of contemporary art in Russia and abroad.

Anna Kolossova, graduated in 2003, has become the head of the video archive of St. Petersburg branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Art. In 2005 she participated in the international digital arts festival Art Digital 2004: I Click, Therefore I Am, which took place at the M’ARS Centre for contemporary Art, Moscow.

Kirill Shamanov, graduated in 2003, has organized video art data-base for one of the leading Russian Internet-portals. He participated in many Russian and international exhibitions. In 2004 Shamanov with other students of the PRO ARTE Institute he took part in the exhibition at the Artillery Museum within the Contemporary Art in Traditional Museum annual festival. In 2005 he created the Zero Rubles project for the Museum of the History of St Petersburg.

Alexander Gurko, graduated in 2002, has passed the exams with success and entered the Fine Arts Academy in Kassel, Germany.

Nochlezhka video installation by Tatiana Goloviznina, graduate of the year 2004, has got General Satellite Corporation Award for the best project of the year 2003. Within a period of 2003-2005 she participated in a number of artistic residences in Taiwan, Italy, Japan, Finland. In 2004 she participated in the Contemporary Art in Traditional Museum annual festival with her own project at the Museum of Russian Academy of Fine Arts.

In winter 2005 video works by the students of the program were presented in the parallel program of the First Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

Ekaterina Kurochkina, graduateâ in 2005, has passed the exams with success and is continuing her education at the Fine Arts Academy in Lapeenranta, Finland.

The works by the graduates of the program Vladimir Lilo and Ilya Trushevsky were selected by one of the leading Russian galerist and curator Marat Guelman for participation in the Art Moscow annual exhibition in 2005.

Kvadrat gallery in St Petersburg has organized personal video screening of the works by Maria Sharafutdinova, graduate of the year 2005. In 2006 Maria has got Stella Art Foundation Award at the all Russian competition organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture. Her video works were already shown in a plenty of exhibitions in Russia.

Pesronal exhibition of the works by Ilya Gaponov, graduate of the year 2005, were organized by the Yakut Gallery, Moscow, in winter 2006.

In spring 2007 video works by the students of the program were presented in the parallel program of the Second Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.
