Writing Pen (12 March - 9 April 2004)

Pro Arte Institute Exhibition Hall
Nevsky Courtine, Peter and Paul Fortress

The Museum of the History of St Petersburg owns around 1,500 writing pens. The exhibits were specially selected to show the diversity of forms, functions and materials of this particular object. The cultural aspects of the writing pen were investigated by such young artists as Ekaterina Ilyina (100 Contraptions for Writing research project), Sergei Babanin and Elena Netetskaya (Incub installation) and Ekaterina Sukhova and the Biosonar group (Music of the Pen sound performance). The program of accompanying lectures was compiled by Lyudmila Bakerkina (senior curator of the Museum of the History of St Petersburg).
